There’s no feeling quite like finding a new restaurant that will delight your palate and fill your tummy. The only thing that makes this experience even better is finding a little hole-in-the-wall that flies under the radar of foodies and serves up delicious meals without the frills. Here are a few that we recommend checking out!
1. Adrian’s, Mesa
It’s easy to pass by this little Mexican restaurant but here you’ll find some mighty tasty meals, including a fabulous carne asada burrito and mouthwatering tacos. Address: 1011 West Main Street, Mesa.
2. Diner 50, Phoenix
I personally only recently discovered this little diner while driving through Phoenix’s industrial section. The décor is cute and you’ll find smiling faces serving some yummy breakfast. Address: 1002 South 19th Avenue, Phoenix.
3. E & O Kitchen, Winslow
Craving some tasty Mexican food while in Winslow? This restaurant is a little out of the way (it sits next to the city’s airport) but you’ll find some really good food with excellent service. Address: 703 Airport Road, Winslow.
4. Los Olivos Pizzeria, Tucson
Sometimes the best food is made in the most humble buildings, so if you’re looking for mouthwatering pizza in Tucson, you should give Los Olivos a try. The dough is perfect, the sauce is spicy, and the different topping combinations really the spot. Address: 937 West Congress Street, Tucson.
5. Maxim Restaurant, Phoenix
If you like finding a restaurant where the servers will greet you by name after ONE visit, this is the spot! You’ll find a nice combination of Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine in this family-owned restaurant and they’re happy to customize orders. The pho is good but if you want something a little different, try a bowl of spicy chicken pho. Address: 3424 North 19th Avenue, Phoenix.
6. Nora Jean’s Koffee Kitchen, Black Canyon City
When it comes to dining in Black Canyon City, there’s a certain pie restaurant that takes all the credit. However, if you’re looking for another place for breakfast or lunch that may not be so crowded, give Nora Jean’s a try! Address: 18850 School House Road, Black Canyon City.
7. Nurd Berger Cafe, Globe
You don’t need to be nerdy or a poor speller to appreciate the food at this little restaurant! In addition to burgers, you’ll also find a nice selection of sandwiches, fish and chips, and delectable fries. Address: 420 Hill Street, Globe.
8. Oracle Patio Cafe, Oracle
After visiting Biosphere 2, you should get a meal over at the Oracle Patio Cafe. The restaurant serves tasty food in a colorful environment and you’ll find a nice selection of fresh meals to choose from. Oh, and don’t forget to eat a slice of that divine homemade pie! Address: 270 West American Avenue, Oracle.
9. Tom & Suzie’s Diner, Holbrook
Another Route 66 restaurant that looks like it once was the home of a famous pizza chain, this place has a great diner atmosphere with tasty food. They serve a tasty breakfast plus an interesting combination of American, Mexican, and Asian cuisine for dinner. Address: 2001 Navajo Boulevard, Holbrook
10. Westside Lilo’s Cafe, Seligman
If you’ve already visited some of the classic Route 66 restaurants, you need to give this place a try! I think it’s a little too nice to be considered a hole-in-the-wall but the décor is a little out there and the food is definitely scrumdiddlyumptious. Don’t expect to leave hungry; the meals here are filling and delicious! Address: 22855 West Route 66, Seligman.
