Growing up in Idaho has always come with its own unique set of perks and challenges. Our childhood field trips, our playgrounds, our trips to grandma’s house… they’re all different than those experienced by other states due to our distinct culture. But while our unique Gem State experiences always seem to fill our memories with a sense of nostalgia in the present, maybe–if you’re like me–you may recall being not quite as appreciative of all things “Idaho” as you are today! Sometimes, it just takes a little perspective. See how many similar thoughts you had growing up:
1. The second you turn 14: "YES! I get to start driving!"
While the rest of us do a collective eye-roll and shudder at the thought. Even though we did the same exact thing .
2. "Cow tipping? That sounds AWESOME!"
But this face is probably why most of us never tried it.
3. "Idaho is so boooring ."
Cool it, young whipper snapper. You'll appreciate the peace and quiet when you're older.
4. Snow days be like: "Woo-HOOO! I'm going to sled down the tallest hill I can find!"
5. Going to Boise was a big city adventure.
Unless of course you grew up in Boise, in which case...
6. A family drive through the country brought conflicting thoughts.
Being trapped in a car with siblings for an unknown period of time: Ugh. Seeing all the cows and horses grazing in their pastures: EPIC.
7. "No, Idaho isn't in the Midwest."

It's also not Iowa or Ohio either.
8. When you see how your out-of-state cousins talk to their elders: "If I ever talked to my parents like that, it would be the last thing I ever did."
9. Small town rivalries brought out your war face... and language we can't repeat here.
High school can be intense in a small town.
10. When your parents say you're going into town and you know it'll be an all day trip: "Can we get ice cream?!"
Going into town was a big deal.
11. Going camping and/or fishing with the family: "I'm going to catch the biggest fish in the WORLD!"
12. After an extended trip visiting family and sleeping on couches (or the floor): "Are we there yet?"
Finally, you're almost home!
