Tarpon Springs is a historic city of approximately 23,000 residents located in Pinellas County. This town has the highest percentage of Greek-Americans in the United States, making a visit to Tarpon Springs the closest you’ll get to a vacation in Greece without leaving Florida.
This picturesque town, which is only a 30-minute drive from Tampa, is full of history, culture, food, shopping, and entertainment.
It's known as the Sponge Capital of the World because of the long history of its thriving sponging community.
Visitors to this charming town feel like they've been transported to an old-world village when touring the sponge docks, restaurants, and shops.
On the waterfront, you will find several restaurants and bakeries with authentic food and boutiques with unique souvenirs and gifts.
Here, you can try some of the best and most authentic Greek food without leaving the state. You won't be able to resist the aroma of Mediterranean dishes and fresh-baked bread that surround you.
Tarpon Springs also was also a popular Victorian-era vacation spot, and the stunning architecture can still be seen throughout the historic downtown and Spring Bayou areas.
