From Roger Williams Park Zoo, The Newport Creamery, and beyond, there are many Ocean State memories that most of us Rhode Islanders have had regardless of age. Other memories shared in state remain only in our memories. Here are 10 things you’ll only remember if you spent time in Little Rhody during the 1980s.
1. Dancing the night away at Barry's Disco
This nightclub was a popular spot from it's opening in 1979 until its closing in 2005. We're pretty sure it's a bank now, but the memories of disco fever still remain.
2. Catching a live show at the original Lupo's in Providence
Most Rhode Islander's agree that the first Lupo's with the big round window and amazing local bands was the best.
3. Showing up to a party in your high-wasted acid wash jeans
The 80s were definitely a time for experiments in self-expression.
4. Rollerskating at one of the many roller rinks
Sholes, Riverdale, you name it!
5. Spending your summer days at Rocky Point Amusement Park
Everyone who grew up in Rhode Island before the late 90s has fond childhood memories at Rocky Point.
6. Spending forever teasing your hair before school
The hairstyles seemed to get bigger and bigger the closer you were to Cranston.
7. Going to Rocky Hill Flea Market every Sunday
You never knew what you'd find!
8. Meeting up with friends at the Providence Civic Center for a rock concert
Be it Talking Heads who got their start in Providence, or some other fantastic band, catching a show at the civic center was always a good time.
9. Taking in an outdoor movie at one of the state's drive in theaters
Rustic Drive In still stands in North Smithfield if you're feeling nostalgic!
10. Getting some late night food at Haven Bros. Diner
...because some things just never change!
