It’s a known fact that nearly everyone who lives in Montana avoids crowds whenever possible. But when it comes to our more popular destinations and tourist attractions, there’s really no avoiding large groups. Luckily, the Treasure State is large, and the population is small for its size. There are still quite a few places you can go and enjoy beautiful surroundings and solitude (or close to it).
The Huckleberry Capital of Montana has a population of less than 300. And if you don’t go during the Huckleberry Festival in August or the Snowmobile Poker Run in February, you won’t see many crowds here. Stay at a cabin at the Lakeside Motel and Resort and enjoy the peace and quiet.
If you’re looking for somewhere REALLY remote, head to the Bob Marshall Wilderness and find Rampart Mountain. It’s considered to be the most remote spot in the state, so if you can’t find solitude there, you never will. This is definitely a trip you’ll want to take in the spring or summer.

Located in the Ekalaka area, this 330 acre park is rural enough that it doesn’t attract as many visitors as some of the more centrally located attractions. But it’s definitely just as beautiful.

This tiny community in Broadwater County has a population of 66. More people can fit inside an Applebee’s than live in Radersburg. The trails in this area are a dream come true for hikers and four wheelers, with plenty of old gold mines and cabins to see.
People often forget about this quiet community that sits near the Canadian border. Though it does see its share of traffic from those going to and from Alberta, the town itself is quiet and crowd-free.
