The stunningly beautiful community of Port Alexander is located at the southeastern corner on Baranof Island. Nestled in the thick temperate rain-forest of the Tongass National Forest, Port Alexander is appealing for many reasons. The incredibly nice residents that are warm and welcoming, the spectacular outdoor opportunities, the undeniable natural beauty, the peaceful way of life and the comfortable coastal climate are just a few of the reasons that this community is so attractive to outsiders.
Port Alexander is a tiny community with less than 100 households where everyone truly knows everyone.
Although this community is very small today, it used to be a thriving destination with over 2,500 residents back in the 1920s when the commercial fishing boom was taking effect. It was even once known as the 'salmon fishing capital of the world.'

The moderate coastal climate and the immense beauty of the Tongass National Forest make it hard not to fall in love with this special place.
Quite a change from other parts of interior, western and south-central Alaska, averages temperatures in Port Alexander are around 40 degrees all winter long. The summertime has average temperatures between 65-80 which is just perfect for anything you'd want to do outdoors.

There are tons of spectacular nearby neighboring destinations on Baranof Island that you can vacation to, without breaking the bank!
With 1,607 square miles to explore on this island alone, you'll love checking out the natural hot springs or the charming town of Sitka. Neighboring islands that are quite incredible include Prince of Wales Island and Chicagof Island.
Because you're already saving money by not paying property taxes, so you might as well take it up a notch and fill the freezer without needing to head to a grocery store.
