In between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe, nestled delicately near the town of Camino in Northern California, is a magical network of apple orchards and growers called Apple Hill. These family farms and the surrounding vineyards are all family owned and operated, and each feature their own special variations on the classic apple treats of fall: apple fritters, apple donuts, apple cider, and even apple pie. While these idyllic Northern California farms are gorgeous year-round, there is no better time to visit these beautiful orchards than the fall, when leaves are beginning to turn and the crisp, fresh apples are picked straight off the tree and at their best. Many places in the Apple Hill offer tremendous views of the Crystal Range of the Sierra Nevada, like here at Boa Vista Orchards! Personally, we think apple picking in Northern California tops everywhere else - you can't ask for better views. The people are friendly and the farms are quaint. Apple Hill is well worth the drive into the countryside.

And the sheer variety here...Golden Delicious, Pink Ladies, Gala, Red Delicious, Granny Smith... yum! 22 varieties can be found at Boa Vista alone, but nearly every variety of apple you could desire is available in Apple Hill.
