There are lots of fun things to do in the fall near Pittsburgh as long as you know where to look. Come September, you’ll find there’s no shortage of things to add to your bucket list, including:

  • The annual Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival occurs during the ninth month of the year, and it’s something of a tradition to attend in the autumn.
  • There are numerous fall festivals in Pittsburgh, in fact, and we think all of them are worthy of a trip. Check out the annual Pittsburgh Pierogi Festival, which usually takes place in September or October. Other than those, enjoy corn mazes, pumpkin patches, hayrides, and haunted houses... if you’re brave!

What is fall in Pittsburgh like? 

Fall is a fascinating, transitional time. Temperatures tend to drop steadily beginning in September, often falling an average of about 30 degrees from about 81 degrees to 50 degrees. Though there’s a bit of a chill in the air, it’s not terribly chilly just yet, though lows can dip into the mid-20s from time to time later in the year.

Foliage lasts about six or seven weeks, and honestly, we feel like that’s just not enough time. There are numerous festivals, parties, and traditions to take part in, and there’s a sense of overall kindness and well-being at this time of year that we just don’t think will ever be beaten. Fall in Pittsburgh is a special time; you need to experience it to understand.
