The city is part of the Jackson Metro area and just 5 miles from the capital, which may explain Flowood’s relatively high violent and property crime rankings; however, crime rates have continually decreased in Flowood over the past few years, which means a different city will likely take the number 10 spot in the years to come.

Another small town, Philadelphia ranks extremely low when it comes to violent crimes; however, the probability of being the victim of a property crime is a bit higher, with a 1 in 33 chance. Luckily, that probably won’t be the case much longer. Over the past few years, Philadelphia has seen an 88% decrease in property crime.
8. Greenville

While Greenville residents are lucky enough to reside in the "Heart and Soul of the Delta," there’s a downside – they have a 1 in 13 chance of being the victim of a property crime, which is the highest rate in the entire state.
7. Greenwood

Known as the "most southern place on earth," this Delta city has a lot to brag about, including a 12% drop in violent crimes between 2011 and 2013. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for property crime in the city, which has increased 10% in recent years.

Although McComb ranked 6th overall, it’s actually the 3rd most violent city in the entire state, and it doesn’t look like things are getting any better. Between 2011 and 2013, violent crime rose by 15%, while property crime statistics were also relatively high during that period.

Turns out one of the of the state’s most historic cities is also one of the most dangerous; however, that may not be the case for long. Over the past few years, Vicksburg’s violent crime dropped by 33% and property crime by 38%. These are major improvements, especially when you consider that Vicksburg’s 2011 statistics would’ve landed the city the number one spot on this list.
4. Meridian

Aside from being the 6th largest city, Meridian is the 4th most dangerous and the 4th most violent in the entire state. Since 2011, violent crime in Meridian has remained high, while property crime has decreased by small amounts.
3. Cleveland

Even with Cleveland’s crime rates fluctuating throughout the years, it’s still among the most dangerous. Violent crime in the city rose by 17% between 2011 and 2013. During that same period, property crime dropped by 26%, leaving residents with a 1 in 16 chance of being robbed.

Ranked the 2nd most dangerous city, Pascagoula saw a 76% hike in violent crime between 2011 and 2013. During that same time period, the city also had a relatively high property crime rate, with residents having a 1 in 15 chance of being the victim of a theft or arson.

As the largest city in the state, it should come as no surprise that Jackson is also the most dangerous. The capital city’s violent crime rate has remained consistently high throughout the years, with residents facing a 1 in 108 chance of being the victim of a violent crime. While still somewhat high, the property crime rate has dropped 25% in recent years.

For instance, Hickahala Creek Bridge, which is located along the interstate, was given a rating of 28.5 by the Mississippi Department of Transportation. Typically, any rating below 50 requires repairs.
