What the town of 1,800 lacks in size, it makes up for with its rich history, impressive arts scene (which can be admired via a series of historic murals scattered throughout the town), and even ample recreation opportunities. (Oswego is home to FIVE well-maintained parks.)

The "Czech Capital of Kansas" first welcomed Czechoslovakian immigrants via the railroad in the mid-1870s and still welcomes visitors from both near and far for their annual (and very colorful) After Harvest Czech Festival, which takes place the last Saturday of each July.
