One of the really great parts of living in Wisconsin is the stories that come out of here . Whether you think that the urban legends are real, or have some grain of truth, or are totally made up, it doesn’t matter. We have some of the most imaginative folks living here. One of the most fascinating and unproven legends of the state is that of Haunchyville, Wisconsin. Proven or not, it will send chills down your spine just to hear about it. Please note: these images are not of the Haunchyville area specifically, be correlate to the lore.
Like we mentioned, one of the greatest urban legends in Wisconsin is the Legend of Haunchyville. And this is how it goes.
According to the story, there were once some people of shorter stature who were employed by the circus. They were horribly exploited by their mean boss, and one day they got tired of it.
They managed to kill him and by hanging him in the woods and cutting off his arms and legs. The mutilation would set the tone for their future.
The group to the woods to set up their own society. This society is apparently located by Muskego. It is a regular community, but everyone just lives in really small homes. And if anyone tries to come in to their village, they won't kill you, but they will perform an amputation so you live as a little person like them, similar to the removal of limbs they performed on their original nemesis.
Only one person who ever visited this village before has escaped this fate. Once there was an albino child who visited the village. The residents took him in as his own and the boy grew quite tall and big. He became their protector, and will mercilessly defend against any intruders.
The story goes that the reason the albino child was taken in was because he treated the smaller stature residents as equals. It was this act of humanity that endeared him to the group.
It's likely that this legend is rooted in the othering of smaller statured people. And an article in the Wisconsin Patch says that most residents are aware that this 60-year-old story is a myth.
The residents that live near the supposed Haunchyville got extremely tired of teenagers and other horror lovers traipsing around their neighborhood searching for this community.
In 2013 the police department stated an almost $350 fine would be laid on anyone who was caught trespassing in the residential neighborhood.
We may never know which parts of this story are true and which are false. It's possible that a group of circus performers did rebel, perhaps violently, against their abusive boss, launching this legend.
And while we don't think you have to worry about running into an albino man with a vengeance or a group of mutilating circus acts, you may want to err on the safe side and avoid this part of Haunchyville, Muskego. The neighbors will appreciate that too.
Here is a story from an apparent survivor of Haunchyville.
