West Virginia takes hot dogs very seriously. There are several great chains like T&L, Hometown Hot Dogs, and the Custard Stand. There are hundreds more little independent hot dog shops. It seems like every town in West Virginia has at least one hot dog joint.
What defines a West Virginia hot dog depends on where you live. In the north, it’s topped with mustard, onion, and “sauce” (chili without beans). In the south, you also get a sweet and creamy “slaw” (coleslaw). West Virginians will argue their whole lives about which is better.
