Just behind your everyday playground in Northwest DC is something you wouldn’t even begin to expect… or can even really explain. The bizarrely beautiful and strangely creepy Glass Forest near Palisades Recreation Center is something reminiscent of a grade school art project crossed with the Blair Witch Project. Hidden off the old trolley trail is the Glass Forest in Palisades Park and you must see it.
In the middle of your ordinary woods is an array of odd but enchanting sculptures.
At every step more and more sculptures made of different natural materials like scrap metal, plastic pieces, old parts, mirrors and, of course, glass come into view.
The trees are ornamented with old bicycle parts or decorative mirrors that give a creepy but cool vibe to the whole place.
There’s even an odd chair or throne if you wanted to declare the Glass Forest a sort of magical kingdom?
There’s also strange wood chimes that you can play, should you so choose to make some music.
No one is really sure where The Glass Forest came from or who created or why. This only adds to the intrigue and the must-see value of the place.
And while at first glance, it might seem confusing and weird. However, the longer you stay and the more you explore the art up close, the more beautiful, unique and fascinating it all is, making it one of the most fascinating places in the city.
