Hey! I'm a freelance writer and guidebook author. I've authored "New Hampshire's 52 With A View - A Hiker's Guide", serve as editor of Appalachian Mountain Club's "Southern New Hampshire Trail Guide", and and am co-editor of the "White Mountain Guide", also for AMC. I'm currently beginning work on the 6th Edition of AMC's Southern New Hampshire Trail Guide, which will be published in 2025. I live in southern New Hampshire and can usually be found wandering throughout the state's mountains and forests.
Living in southern New Hampshire, I’m surrounded by almost endless options to get outside and explore. Hundreds of miles of hiking trails and countless summits are located in this part of the state. One area in particular that I return to frequently is the Lakes Region, and one of my favorite places to get outside in this region is the Belknap Range just south of Lake Winnipesaukee. It’s an area of rugged beauty for experienced trampers but also serves as a wonderful introduction to hiking in New Hampshire if you are a beginner.
If you want to test the waters of hiking in New Hampshire, the Belknap Range is a perfect area to try and catch the bug. For more information and to download a trail map, visit the Belknap Range Trails website and also consult the AMC Southern New Hampshire Trail Guide. If you’ve never hit the trail before, here are some tips to know to ensure a safe trip.
