Spring has sprung, which means wildflower season is upon us. This Texas wildflower road trip is the perfect adventure for this time of year, leading to six of the best wildflower viewing sites in the state. Get your camera ready and prepare to be wowed! Visit Google Maps for the customizable driving route.
Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center features seasonal blooms year-round, but spring is definitely my favorite time to visit. You'll see colorful wildflowers such as evening primrose, Indian paintbrush, and our beloved state flower, the bluebonnet. Prepare to be amazed as you stroll through all of the different gardens and trails on the 284-acre property.

2. Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area (Spicewood)
Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area, 2820 Co Rd 414, Spicewood, TX 78669, USA
Encompassing over 600 acres of land along the shores of beautiful Lake Travis, Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area is one of Texas' premier springtime wildflower-viewing destinations. During the month of April, the park's lush fields come alive with thousands upon thousands of eye-popping bluebonnets, and it's a sight to be seen.
I will always have a soft spot for Willow City Loop. Sure, I love a good hike or nature walk, but sometimes I just want to hop in the car, roll the windows down, and enjoy a nice scenic drive. This 13-mile route is located just outside of Fredericksburg and features stunning wildflower blooms on both sides of the road, so you can soak up the views from the comfort of your vehicle.
4. Ennis Bluebonnet Trails (Ennis)
Ennis Bluebonnet Trails (an April driving route), 201 NW Main, Ennis, TX 75119, USA
You may be familiar with the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails Festival, but if you miss it, the driving route is open through the last day of April. The trip is roughly 40 miles long and takes you through some of the most eye-popping bluebonnet fields you'll ever see. Definitely bring a good camera with you!
5. Davey Dogwood Park (Palestine)
Davey Dogwood Park, 4205 N Link St, Palestine, TX 75803, USA
Moving away from bluebonnets for a bit, Davey Dogwood Park in Palestine is the best place to see dogwoods in the spring. They're in bloom all throughout the season, and the park has hiking, biking, and driving routes.
I can't give you an exact road or destination to plug into your GPS for this one - why? Because the entire town of Brenham (and the surrounding areas) is full of breathtaking spring wildflowers. Just drive the country roads and see what you can see!
Would you take this Texas wildflower road trip? Tell us your thoughts in the comments! If you have time, I recommend stopping at the Waco Mammoth National Monument – it’s right along the driving route and is one of the coolest places you’ll ever visit.
