As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Next time I can do a fun weekend getaway I plan to climb aboard this vintage train car near Birmingham, Alabama. This Magic City area vacation rental is such a unique place to stay and would only be better with a group of friends. It has several options for accommodating more people to enjoy all of its amenities so you could gather a group for a fun retreat. With river access, a cookout area, a hot tub, and more, this place looks incredible for gathering around a firepit during football season.
High above the Locust Fork of the Black Warrior River, this vintage train sleeper car is parked and ready for passengers. The vacation getaway is on 100 acres of gated property just 25 miles from Birmingham. Its central location makes it a convenient option for people in most areas of the state.
While it feels remote, you're less than a mile from a local fire department and convenience store, and about five miles from a lot more shopping and dining options, if needed.
A selection of sweet snacks is provided to enjoy around the fire pit. I'd do a little shopping beforehand for a big cookout, though! Just wait until you see the amenities for it.
The property has plenty to entertain a small group, including an enclosed picnic pavilion with a karaoke machine, horseshoes, beach volleyball, a stock tank pool, and two grilling areas.
Guests are welcome to explore the property (be careful around ridges!). A private road takes you down to the shoals, where you can put in a kayak or tube and float with your friends.
There are four roomettes original to the sleeper car. Three are decorated similarly to the queen room in a Western style. The fourth is dedicated to Dolly. There are mounted TVs in the living room and each of the bedrooms.
It's important to note that the original Murphy-style beds may be small for some adults. With that in mind, consider there is an additional cabin on the property that guests may add to the rental. Also, the property allows adding up to five six-person tents if some folks prefer to camp.
We don’t think you’ll have any trouble at all getting friends and family on board to join you for a fun getaway on this vintage train car near Birmingham, Alabama. If you decide to take the adventure, be sure to let us know!
