Lisa loves animals and has dogs, rats, cats, guinea pigs, and snakes. She is passionate about animal rescue and live music - traveling across the country to see a favorite band is a pretty regular occurrence! Being out hiking in the woods enjoying the scenery with her beloved dogs is another favorite hobby, and also checking out the Pokemon Go scene in whatever city she happens to be in at any given time (coffee and dog leash in hand). One hobby I’ve developed over the last few years is visiting museums and we certainly have a lot of great museums in Georgia. From historic home museums that feel like a step into the past to small buildings devoted to ultra-specific topics, it’s wonderful to get out of the house and learn something at the same time. While cities like Savannah and Atlanta are famous for an array of museums covering every subject imaginable, there are plenty of other museums worthy of a visit in other cities throughout Georgia. One of the best museums in Columbus, GA is not nearly as well-known as it should be: the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center. Check it out:
Fittingly, the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center is located not far from Fort Moore. Known as Fort Benning until the name was changed in 2023, Fort Moore is one of the largest military bases in Georgia.
This sprawling museum is the country's only one devoted to the American Infantry. The campus is massive and contains several memorials, including a Memorial Walk of Honor and a Vietnam War memorial.
One of the best things about the National Infantry Museum is the lengthy time period it covers.
For more information about this fantastic military museum in Columbus, GA, and upcoming events held there, check out the National Infantry Museum website or the National Infantry Museum Facebook page.
