Denver is the proud home of Hammond's only factory where you can see how their one-of-a-kind candies are handcrafted - and even hand packaged - from start to finish. Now that's sweet!
For almost 100 years, Hammond's Candies has been a scrumptious Mile High treasure, but did you know it all started with a high school dropout? After completing his first day of high school, Carl Hammond returned home and declared to his mother that he needed no more education. He procured a job as an apprentice in a candy factory, and the rest, as we now know, is history.
Carl founded Hammond’s Candy Company in 1920, and his unmatched entrepreneurial spirit led him to become a true Renaissance man of the candy world. He developed his own recipes, created original candies, and even acted as salesman, front of the house, and office manager in the early days.
Hammond's Candies has grown exponentially since its inception, and today you can tour the 35,000-square-foot facility north of downtown Denver and see the handcrafting in action. What was once a local name, has now grown to be a national treasure, and Hammond's candy can even be found in specialty shops around the world. Kudos, Carl!
Though they've changed hands and more than doubled in size in the past couple of decades, Hammond's holds true to Carl's original motto that, "Nothing is more important than quality." Amen.
What sets Hammond's Candies apart from its competitors is that many of their products are still pulled, twisted, and shaped by hand - just like they were under Carl's tutelage in the 1920s.
"Hip, hip, hurray!" for Hammond's dedication to quality, handcrafted, locally made products!
