Arches National Park has so much to offer. With more than 2,000 documented natural arches, it is a destination that deserves a spot on every bucket list. While there are several things to do at Arches National Park, we love to go hiking and one trail that is full of adventure (and incredible sights!) is the Fiery Furnace Trail. This is an iconic Utah hiking trail and one that many visitors to the park rave about. We agree – it is not to be missed!
The Fiery Furnace Trail is full of adventure. You will walk along narrow ledges, in between small gaps in the canyon walls, and on loose sand. However, every step will be worth the journey.
The Fiery Furnace hike is not one you can take on your own. You have two options: you can accompany a ranger on this trail or purchase a Self-Guided Exploration Permit before you go.
These permits must be reserved online and at least two days before your trip, but no more than seven days in advance. Children under the age of five are not allowed on this trail and groups are limited to six individuals. There is a small fee to receive this permit. There is also a small fee to accompany a ranger on this hike.

The Fiery Furnace Trail is only 2 miles long, but it is difficult. Due to the various terrain you will walk through, you can expect to be challenged both physically and mentally.
On this hike, it is crucial that you wear proper footwear, sun protection, and have plenty of water. You will also want a backpack to carry your water and other hiking accessories as you will want your hands free for climbing over and between rocks.

There is so much to see in just a short distance on this trail. You will walk next to remarkable canyon walls…
And you may want to pinch yourself at times to see if you are dreaming. The views are almost too beautiful to be real.
While you will certainly be distracted by the views, always make sure to look down and watch your step. You must stay on the trail to avoid the fragile desert environment and if you take this hike with a ranger, don't be shy and ask questions to learn even more about the plants and wildlife you may see.
The Fiery Furnace Hiking Trail is one of the most unforgettable hikes in Arches National Park. It is full of unique terrain, gorgeous views, and adventures around every turn. Just make sure you get your permit or ticket to hike with a ranger — you’ll be sad to miss this area of the park.
