I'm proud to be from the great state of Michigan. I've lived in the Mitten several different times throughout my life spending time in all corners of it. My journeys took me up and down the Lake Michigan coast, out east to explore Detroit and Ann Arbor, and to the dense forests of the UP.
Before writing with Only In Your State, I worked as a local TV news reporter and anchor, most recently in South Bend. Many of the stories I covered took place in Southwest Michigan. My roots are even deeper in the Wolverine State as I often head to Kalamazoo to visit family.
When I'm not out exploring nature, I'm avidly watching sports. I specifically have a deep love for the Michigan Wolverines (my alma mater), and I get to write about them and several other Big Ten teams as and editor for Athlon Sports. I also love to enjoy the great outdoors with my wife and our dog, Piper.
I'm excited to share all my favorite Michigan destinations with you. Keep exploring.
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Instead of staying near nature, you can stay in nature for your next vacation to the beach in Michigan. This Enchanted Treehouse is one of the Most Unique Places to Stay in Michigan, and that’s not only due to its location. Smack dab in the middle of two incredible Michigan beach towns, Holland and Grand Haven, this Vrbo rental gives you a private space to enjoy my favorite part of the state, the Lake Michigan shoreline.
There are plenty of reasons to consider this accommodation when planning your next group trip to West Michigan’s greatest attraction.
I wasn’t joking when I called it a treehouse. Even though it’s covered by this stunning canopy, the number of windows built into the design keeps the whole rental lively and bright.
According to the owner, the post and beam-style cottage was designed to maximize views of Lake Michigan and minimize environmental impact on the dunes.
These dunes mean fine sand beaches right outside your back door. There is 100 feet of private beach only 150 feet away from the back patio. Go from cooling in the shade to basking in the sun in seconds.
It’s worth noting the walk to the beach is quite steep and might not be suitable for people of all abilities. The treehouse itself is not handicap accessible.

This wood interior makes you feel like you’re living among the branches. For an even more cozy experience, you can warm up using the wood stove fireplace. It almost feels like you’re outside because of all the windows.
This floor also has a full kitchen to make delicious meals in the comfort of your own treehouse. It’s unique design, bountiful amenities, and incredible location make this a perfect fit for our list of Unique Places to Stay In Michigan.
If the views from inside the Enchanted Treehouse aren’t enough, take a step outside on the back porch. You’ll be welcomed to a beautiful view of the surrounding forest and Lake Michigan.
I’ll be disappointed if you don’t catch a glimpse of the sunset over the Big Lake. This perch was made for the final rays of sunshine any day of the year.
When it comes to the amount of people this rental accommodates, it makes a comfortable stay for single families to small groups. The master bedroom feels just as connected to the trees around it as the rest of the house.
The high ceiling almost makes it feel like there isn’t one at all.
This is one of the two bunk rooms where any additional members of your party can stay. They too will get amazing views through these marvelous windows.
There are also three bathrooms, with two on the main floor and one in the master suite.
There are a lot of other reasons to love this accommodation from our list of Most Unique Places to Stay in Michigan. It is pet-friendly so you don’t have to worry about leaving your legged friends at home. It also comes equipped with four security cameras to give you peace of mind about not having any unexpected visitors.
The rate can be between $275-300 per night, making it a great option to spit amongst friends or family. Consider booking the Enchanted Treehouse near Grand Haven, Michigan for your next lake retreat.
