Pop quiz: What’s sparkling, blue, clear, and beloved by locals? If you answered “lakes in Indiana“, congratulations – you nailed it. With more than 25 amazing lakes to choose from, the Hoosier State is an outdoorsy person’s dream. Take, for instance, the legendary Tippecanoe Lake; this body of water is much-beloved by locals, but sometimes it seems like they’re the only ones who even know it’s here. It’s 880 acres of water ready for anything, and should you ever hope to explore a hidden lake in Indiana that only the locals know about, this one’s for you.
Tippecanoe Lake (also called Lake Tippecanoe... tomato, tomahto) is the deepest natural lake in the state of Indiana. Going down 123 feet at its deepest point, the lake is popular for diving and boating and plenty of other delights.
There are several marinas with excellent opportunities to get out on the water and enjoy, like Patona Bay Marina (which doubles as a resort... score!).
The resort - and its marina - can be found at Bell Rohr Park, a favorite haunt for the folks who live in the area. There are numerous private residences lining the shores of the lake; it's an amazing place to visit for a day or stay long-term and raise a family.

The lake was formed long, long ago as a result of the migration of glaciers. The water is cool, clear, and clean - everything anyone could ever hope for.
Rent a boat or bring your own: there's no shortage of good times to be had when you're at Lake Tippecanoe. Even if sports aren't your thing and you'd rather just lounge lakeside... no worries.
Personally, I'm the adventurous type, and I find that this lake is excellent for things I enjoy doing - so if you're a fan of getting a little crazy, I think you'll love it!
Most people probably don't think about Indiana when they think about awesome lakes and adventure, but I think they should. Plus, you know what this lesser-known nature of it all means: fewer crowds.
You never know who you'll meet out here; from deer and numerous species of wild birds to reptiles, amphibians, and plenty of fish - there's always someone around that calls it home.
Remember to be kind and pack out everything you pack in - or use designated trash areas. It's also important to follow boating rules and stay in designated boating areas - it's very important for the ecosystem that we do.
If you're hoping for a wonderful day on the lake filled with fun and natural wonder, this one's for you!
