Lisa loves animals and has dogs, rats, cats, guinea pigs, and snakes. She is passionate about animal rescue and live music - traveling across the country to see a favorite band is a pretty regular occurrence! Being out hiking in the woods enjoying the scenery with her beloved dogs is another favorite hobby, and also checking out the Pokemon Go scene in whatever city she happens to be in at any given time (coffee and dog leash in hand). We could all use a little more peace in our lives. It feels like every time you pull up social media, you’re bombarded with bad news from somewhere in the world. It’s good to stay informed on current events, but it can also be overwhelming, and one thing I like to do to keep myself sane is take a bit of a break every once in a while. Relax, disconnect, and go to a peaceful place where you can focus on yourself and those closest to you. We’re lucky enough to have plenty of peaceful towns in Connecticut, but one of my favorites is Colchester. This historic small town has a surprising amount to do, plenty of history, a great vibe, and, perhaps most importantly, no shortage of tranquility.
Colchester is a town in New London County with just under 16,000 people, though it has the vibe of a much smaller town. It is home to the villages of Westchester and North Westchester.
Founded in 1698, this was the eighth town to be established in Connecticut. As you can imagine, there's a lot of history here, and quite a few historical buildings to check out.
Day Pond State Park is a wonderful little park spanning about 180 acres. There are some great trails here that are perfect for when you just want to reconnect with nature and disconnect from your worries.
This is one of the most unique hikes in Connecticut. It's a linear state park that runs for 43 miles along the length of an old rail line. The trail has a variety of entry points, so you can come and go as you please and don't have to attempt the whole length at once.
You'll find even more opportunities for relaxing at Priam Vineyards, a wonderful winery in Colchester that offers up fun events and award-winning wines.
Priam Vineyards, 11 Shailor Hill Rd, Colchester, CT 06415, USA
You'll find the cheeses here at various farmers markets in the region, but you can also pick them up right from the source at the farm's cheese shop. Learn more from the Cato Corner Farm website.
