The Natchez Trace is one of the most scenic and historic road trips in Mississippi. There are so many spots along the 444-mile drive to get out and stretch your legs, including this short and sweet stroll through the swamps. Today we’re taking a closer look at the Cypress Swamp Trail in Mississippi, one of my favorite nature trails in the Magnolia State. 

You’ll find the Cypress Swamp Trail in Mississippi just north of the Ross R Barnett Reservoir on the Natchez Trace.

As the river retreated to a new direction, it left behind a shallow swamp where water-tolerant cypress and tupelo trees thrived.

Keep your eyes on the water for turtles and alligators. If you’re visiting in the colder months, you may not see any alligators, but you’ll probably hear several songbirds in the trees above!
