South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
Pretty as a picture isn’t just a cliche, and those who have traveled throughout the state of South Carolina and have seen some of our gorgeous landscapes surely appreciate this. In fact, the stunning landscapes of Cypress Gardens in Moncks Corner, SC even look like they could be from a Claude Monet painting. If you haven’t had an opportunity to visit this breathtaking corner of the state yet, it’s one of the best to add to your bucket list.
Those familiar with the work of Claude Monet, one of the most iconic artists of all time, will recognize the similarities between this landscape and the Monet painting, The Water Lily Pond. Just one of several bridges in Cypress Gardens, this one was actually built for the movie, The Patriot, which was shot entirely in South Carolina from September 1999 to January 2000.
Another common nature scene within Cypress Gardens reminiscent of a Monet painting is the delicate lily pad, clearly a favorite of the painter, as evidenced by Water Lilies, his series of around 250 oil paintings depicting his own flower garden.
Artists are so often inspired by the beauty of nature. An interesting difference between the art of painting versus the art of photography would have to be the ability to exclude photobombers such as this sunning alligator!
Cypress Gardens is such a beautiful place, worthy of a visit. It's a popular spot for girlfriend getaway trips, weddings, and more. Boat tours are available for the best views of the gorgeous landscapes where you'll enjoy seeing the reflections of the Cypress trees in the water, three bridges, and, of course, many lily pads along the way.
Visit the Cypress Gardens website to plan your visit. If you’ve never been to Moncks Corner, SC before, you’re in for a treat. You may need a weekend to have plenty of time to explore and fully enjoy the area.
