To truly get away from it all, head north. The Town of Bell, pop. 263, is as tranquil as it is spectacular. This pretty town is located in far northern Wisconsin, in Bayfield County. Situated along the south shore of Lake Superior, it’s known for its stunning natural beauty, outdoor recreational opportunities, and a relaxed, small-town atmosphere. Here’s a closer look at Bell, a peaceful Wisconsin town.
Bell is home to the unincorporated hamlet of Cornucopia. There’s not much here, and that’s a big part of the charm – a sweeping lakeshore and wild forest might be all you need.
The town is is surrounded by lush forests and offers breathtaking vistas of Lake Superior. It's an ideal location for photography and taking in the beautiful natural landscapes, especially along the lakeshore.
The surrounding area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Residents and visitors enjoy hiking and exploring the nearby trails, birdwatching, fishing, and wildlife viewing.
The local marina provides access to Lake Superior for boating and water sports. It’s a fun place in any season. In the winter, the region offers opportunities for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.
The town also is home to fun events, including the Cornucopia Art Crawl, the Cornucopia Day Festival, and the Almost Fourth Fireworks (held on the Saturday that’s closest to July 4).
The community is not far from the town of Bayfield, which serves as a gateway to the Apostle Islands. Bayfield offers additional dining, shopping, and lodging options and is known for its apple orchards and the annual Apple Festival. The charming lakefront community of Washburn is also an easy drive away.
I absolutely love this area of the state and can’t wait to go back. I’ve spent some time in and around the Bayfield Peninsula, and the trails and lakeshore are simply incredible. It’s a great place, especially if you love the outdoors. It’s a fun destination for a weekend getaway or a longer trip. Learn more about Bell and Cornucopia on the town website. Get all your outdoor gear for your next Bell adventure at REI, and here are some more fun things to see and do in Wisconsin.
