The quaint town of Concord, Massachusetts is one of my favorite places to take a day trip. Concord is a special place where history and natural beauty merge together to form a quintessential vibe that is uniquely New England. We’ve already told you about Henry David Thoreau’s Walden Pond and Sleepy Hollow Cemetery where many notable authors are laid to rest. Louisa May Alcott’s Orchard House is another Concord attraction that you won’t want to miss!!

This historic landmark was once home to author Louisa May Alcott, who wrote the classic book “Little Women” while living here with her family in 1868. Louisa May's father named the home, “Orchard House” for the numerous apple trees found here when the Alcotts purchased the property in 1857.

When you take a trip to the Orchard House, you will feel like you are stepping back in time. The historic property has been lovingly preserved and still contains a large amount of items from the Alcott family’s original collection.

The grounds of the property are equally intriguing as the interior. The Little Women Garden is a must-see! Each section of the garden is dedicated to a main character from the novel. Each sister has her own special flowers and plants.

Morning glories, sunflowers, and lilies are just a few of the different species that make up the garden.
The gardens are free to tour. The Orchard House also hosts a number of community events and activities throughout the year.

Even if you haven’t read “Little Women,” the sheer beauty of the Orchard House property and home makes it worth touring.
