When I'm not out exploring nature, I'm avidly watching sports. I specifically have a deep love for the Michigan Wolverines (my alma mater), and I get to write about them and several other Big Ten teams as and editor for Athlon Sports. I also love to enjoy the great outdoors with my wife and our dog, Piper.

Wines from West Michigan grow in some of the best conditions outside of the Pacific Coast. You’ll pass by several of them on your way to Chateau Chantal. You’ll be treated to a beautiful drive up the Old Mission Peninsula that’s surrounded by the Grand Traverse Bay. There aren’t many roads as peaceful as the one that leads to this destination.

All the rooms at the inn have breathtaking views of the vineyard. It’s easy to wind down in one of their several floor plans. You can truly feel at home in these luxurious spaces knowing the wine isn’t too far away.
This winery specializes in producing wines from Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, and other varieties of grapes. The original owners started putting vines in the ground as early as 1983. Once the vineyard was up and running, they began constructing the original French-style three-room bed and breakfast.
This hotel stuck out to me because of its proximity to the vines, however, the chateau itself earned recognition from USA Today as the best winery hotel in the country in 2021. The gorgeous setting, world-class amenities, and exceptional breakfast are some of the reasons they chose Chateau Chantal over wineries from the Napa Valley.

This is one of my favorite places to be in the summertime thanks to the great breweries, small towns, and hidden gems I always find along the way. Even if wine isn’t your thing, you can’t go wrong with spending time in Northwest Michigan.
