I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Fall is upon us and that means apples, pumpkins, corn mazes, haunted houses, fall foliage, and festivals! To some, it may also mean a road trip to a charming small town in New Mexico where you can enjoy the great outdoors and the beauty that fall brings. While it’s known mainly as a ski town, Angel Fire is the perfect backdrop for a small-town fall day trip in New Mexico.
Located in the Rocky Mountains, Angel Fire is a village that's best known for its skiing in the winter. However, a visit here during the fall should not be overlooked. in fact, it's an ideal location to spend a crisp fall day, especially during peak fall foliage.
One of the best ways to explore Angel Fire is via a hike along a trail like the Elliott Barker Trail (pictured here). This 5.5-mile loop has an elevation gain of over 1,000 feet and you'll have a bird's eye view of colorful fall foliage along the way.
Another trail you may enjoy if you're a hiker is the 4.7-mile Deer, Coyote, Bear, Bobcat Loop. This trail will take you through the alpine forest and you can enjoy some solitude along the trail. Add in the scenery and you've got yourself the perfect hike!
While the Angel Fire Resort is busiest in the winter months due to the ski season, visiting during the fall gives you access to hiking trails and a scenic ride on the ski lift.
After taking in the fall foliage around the small picturesque village of Angel Fire, be sure to stop by Enchanted Circle Brewing Company. This award-winning craft brewery first opened in 2015.
