Drive by this iconic Peabody ice cream stand just about any summer evening and you will find a line out the door. If you have visited here before, you know that the time spent in line is well worth the wait. Not only is the ice cream at Treadwell’s delicious, but the portions are extremely plentiful. I promise that you will not leave feeling hungry!
Treadwell’s started as a neighborhood ice cream stand, way back in 1946. Now a favorite North Shore dessert stop, longtime regulars (including myself), often drive for miles to indulge in one of Treadwell’s delicious cones or sundaes.
Treadwell’s is open seven days a week, all year long.
They offer an extensive list of soft serve, sherbet, frozen yogurt, and ice cream flavors. There are traditional favorites like coffee, strawberry, and chocolate chip, as well as some interesting ginger, frozen pudding, and grapenut flavors.
Seasonal favorites such as eggnog, pumpkin Oreo, and peach change throughout the year. There are three portion sizes available and all are quite generous.
Treadwell’s also makes some of the best sundaes around. There are nine different kinds to choose from and each features heaps of ice cream, whipped cream, and nuts.
If you are really hungry and not afraid of a brain freeze, you may want to try Treadwell’s “Kitchen Sink,” which features 12 scoops of ice cream covered in whipped cream, sprinkles, nuts, and three different toppings!

The chocolate chip cookie sandwiches at Treadwell’s are also pretty amazing! They come with vanilla, chocolate, or twist ice cream.
If you just can’t get enough ice cream on a trip to Treadwell’s, you can always buy some to take home with you. Flavors are available in an array of sizes ranging from a quart to a half gallon.
More information regarding Treadwell’s delicious ice cream menu can be found on Treadwell’s website and Treadwell’s Facebook page. If you have tried any of Treadwell’s signature sundaes (especially the kitchen sink sundae) we want to know all about it! More great Bay State ice cream can be found at Putnam Pantry in Danvers and Scoops of Agawam in Feeding Hills. The Little Depot Diner and The Flying Saucer Company are other great eats in the Peabody area.
