I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
While there are plenty of classic American foods like hamburgers, pot roast, and key lime pie, there’s something about hot dogs that evokes a sense of nostalgia. Another thing that brings about a sense of nostalgia is a drive along Route 66. When driving along the Mother Road in Flagstaff, you’ll encounter plenty of fascinating historic roadside attractions and eateries that are always worth making a stop. One such place is an iconic Arizona hot dog drive-thru, and, if you’ve ever been to Flagstaff, chances are you’ve seen it. With its A-frame style architecture and red roof, Dog Haus is a classic along Route 66.
If you happen to be driving along Historic Route 66 in Flagstaff and spot a building with a massive red roof, you've found Route 66 Dog Haus. This iconic hot dog drive-thru has been in business for over 50 years! I always enjoy seeing it when I'm in Flag.
Either step up to the window or drive-thru and place your order. What will it be? Among the classic items locals love are the pastrami sandwich, steak sandwich, fried baloney sandwich, hamburgers, and, of course, hot dogs.
Your options include a plain hot dog, a chili dog, a chili cheese dog with or without green chili, a Sonora dog, a Kraut dog, a Chicago dog, and more. There are also corn dogs for an added sense of nostalgia.
Don't want a hot dog? Well, there are plenty of other items you can sink your teeth into like this rib-eye steak sandwich, a Seadog made with beer-battered cod, and a chicken bacon Swiss sandwich. Delicious!
Have you ever stopped at this historic and iconic Arizona hot dog drive-thru? If so, tell us about your experience and the hot dogs in the comments. For more information, visit the Route 66 Dog Haus website and follow the Route 66 Dog Haus Facebook page.
