J.B. Weisenfels has lived in rural Arkansas for three decades. She is a writer, a mom, and a graduate student. She is also an avid collector of tacky fish whatnots, slightly chipped teapots, and other old things. In her spare time she enjoys driving to the nearest creek to sit a while. If you were to visit her, she'd try to feed you cornbread.
Waterfront destinations are popular in the Arkansas summer, and it’s no wonder. We need those cool lakes and roaring rivers to keep us all from sweating every second of every sweltering day. But where do you go to eat on these waterfront adventures? No problem there. We’ve found nine of the best waterfront restaurants in the Natural State. Whether you’re out on the lake or out on the town, you’ll find a good place to satisfy your tastebuds while you enjoy the many waters of Arkansas.
1. Bean Palace Restaurant at War Eagle Mill (Rogers)
Set beside War Eagle Creek, Bean Palace is located on the third floor of War Eagle Mill. At Bean Palace you’ll find dishes made from the organic grains milled at War Eagle. In addition to those foods, you’ll also find local meats and vegetables. It’s a real farm-to-table and mill-to-table restaurant.
Janssen’s Lakefront Restaurant sits on the shores of Greers Ferry Lake, and it’s spectacular. The food and location are so great you might have a bit of a wait time, but rest assured—the wait will definitely be worth it. You can arrive by car, of course, but you can also arrive by boat as there’s a place to dock right outside.
3. Fisherman’s Wharf Steak and Seafood (Hot Springs)
Fisherman’s Wharf overlooks gorgeous Lake Hamilton. You’ll find traditional seafood dishes there, but also glorious steaks. Most of all, you’ll love the setting. You can watch the geese and ducks play on the lake while you chow down on your delicious food.
This restaurant is a throwback to the neighborhood pub, and you’ll love the atmosphere. More than that, you’ll love this pub’s location on Lake Hamilton and its delicious pizza offerings.
Have no fear! They don’t serve worms and crickets to the human guests. They serve traditional diner fare, and you’ll love the homey atmosphere. The café is set on the shores of Lake Chicot, and if you’re planning to fish, it’s one stop shopping for you. Pick up some bait. Eat some pie. Just don’t do those things in reverse.
The massive deck at Cajun’s Wharf overlooks the Arkansas River in Little Rock. This restaurant has been in business since 1975, and it’s staying power is based on the deliciousness of its food, the incomparable atmosphere, and those incredible views.
This restaurant has been featured in Southern Living, and it’s so fancy there’s a dress code, so please don’t arrive in swimming trunks or a ball cap. Put on your best resort wear and get some delicious European food with a Southern spin from the shores of pristine Greers Ferry Lake.
Lake Ouachita is one of the most pristine lakes in the nation, and sitting on its shores you’ll find Echo Canyon Resort & Marina. The resort is secluded and wonderful, and you’ll never forget a dining experience there.
The food at Brady Mountain Resort is American-style, and it can be consumed on the shores of crystal-clear Lake Ouachita. While you’re there do try the deliciously famous Brady Burger and a big slice of pie.
