One incredible thing I love about the state of Michigan is that it is surrounded by four of the five Great Lakes. The state has the nation’s longest freshwater coastline (at 3,288 miles), so you know there will be tons to do on the water, on the coast, or on a beach. That makes it an incredible place to visit in the summer (especially in July). With all of the coastlines and natural spots, there are seemingly endless ways to enjoy a beach or boating summer in Michigan – both in the Upper Peninsula and Michigan Lower Peninsula proper.

Summer is the perfect time to visit Mackinac Island, as the island comes alive with vibrant colors, lots of things to do, and a bustling atmosphere. Whether you are there for the views, outdoor activities, shopping, or dining, the warm July days are perfect for just being at your leisure.

I love the vibe of Ann Arbor, so if you're never spent much time in this college town, this July is the time to do it. The Ann Arbor Art Fair is a renowned event that showcases the work of artists from around the country. Explore the streets of downtown Ann Arbor filled with art booths, live music, food vendors, and interactive activities -- all while taking in the culture of this awesome community!

9. Traverse City Film Festival (Traverse City) - July 26th to July 31st
Film buffs definitely should not miss the Traverse City Film Festival this July, which showcases a diverse selection of independent films. You can go to film screenings, panel discussions, and special events hosted by renowned filmmakers, all while picking up swag and meeting incredible members of this creative community. Also, who could say "no" to a dimly lit theater with air conditioning during the summer heat?
10. Charlevoix Venetian Festival (Charlevoix) - July 15th to July 22nd
If you haven't seen many boat parades in Michigan, but if you'd love the chance, then head to the Charlevoix Venetian Festival! There is a kind of magical atmosphere at the festival, with boat parades, fireworks, live music, and a full-blown carnival. Remember, you can't miss the night-time boat parade, as all of the vessels are decked out in sparkly lights!
