If you are anything like me I love to find those small businesses that are so small they don’t even have a store. It is kind of like finding treasure when you know that one particular town holds within it a local secret that is just waiting to be discovered. These same adventurous sensations came about when I first discovered Werth Cookie Co. One bite is all it took and I knew at that very moment, and without a shadow of a doubt, that I had in fact, found the best cookies in all of Tennessee.
Like a rambler of old the Werth Cookie Co. doesn’t have a home storefront per se, but they can be found all around the tri-city area.
They stock cookies at great coffee shops like Open Doors and Crew Brew Coffee, but they often sell out so if you see them you should grab them before anyone else finds them. This iconic staple all started, however, in humble beginnings. Jeannita Werth is a self-taught baker who had no prior experience in the kitchen. One day she decided to make a couple of cookies for her church family and the response was outstanding. With a little encouragement from enthusiastic tasters, she and her husband opened up Werth Cookie Co., and the rest is history.
They nabbed a spot at the Johnson City Farmers Market which meets every Saturday during the spring to fall season.
They are now a favorite mainstay among other great booths offering fresh vegetables and crafted goods. The iconic symbol of Werth Cookies is, of course, the curled mustache that can be found on every box. You may think that this has something to do with pop culture or the business tycoons of the 1800s, but it is actually a theme that is lived out by the second half of the Werth Cookie operation, and the husband of Jeannita, Josh Werth. Josh is a friendly face who is always willing to greet guests and does indeed sport an impressive mustache. People would always remember the kind “mustache guy” from the farmers market so it become an easy branding decision for the couple.

When you order these delicious little treats you can get a bag of two or a whole dozen in a box.
If you are planning a big event, or just want to keep a massive stash for yourself (we’re not judging) get a party pack that comes with four dozen cookies! If that still isn't enough (because who wouldn't want even more?) they will even customize a cookie count for you if you have a massive event. You never know what you might find if you visit them at the farmer's market. They will usually keep a standard (goey, warm, and heavenly) chocolate chip cookie, but they rotate flavors from week to week.
Gluten-free and vegan options will always be available at the farmer's market. Trust me when I say you won’t miss those pesky wheat and dairy products when you bite into these delicious treats.
If you missed the farmers market but you still need to get your fix of these most excellent cookies you can order them online. They will even ship them anywhere in Tennessee, but if you are local to Kingsport you can pick up your order fresh from the oven.
During the various seasons throughout the year, seasonal favorites will start rolling out like pumpkin spice or peppermint cocoa. They are experimenting with new and interesting flavors all the time so you never know what might be just around the corner.
The secret is out, this small business is bursting at the seam with sweet baked goods and we can’t help but shine a light on these glorious creations. There truly isn’t another cookie you will find anywhere else, and I certainly think they are the best cookies in all of Tennessee.
