It tends to fly a bit under the radar, although many believe it to be among the best coastal towns in the U.S. But there’s substantial evidence to back up this claim: the beautiful beaches, the delightful local businesses, and the friendly locals. Plus, there’s gorgeous scenery just about everywhere you look. Learn more about why Cape Charles is one of Virginia’s very best coastal destinations.
Tucked away on the southern end of Virginia's Eastern Shore awaits a delightful coastal destination loved by many: Cape Charles.
The gentle, calm waters of the Chesapeake Bay have an almost magnetic pull. Whether you prefer lounging on the sand, walking alongside the surf, or swimming in the water, you'll find it irresistible to stay away from the water.
Of course, there's a lot to enjoy at Virginia's Cape beyond the water. Community events such as farmers markets are a great way to get to know the town and its residents.
Ideas include riding in a carriage, shopping for toys and books on Mason Avenue, renting jet skis, playing pickleball, and hunting for sea shells on the barrier islands.
When you're ready for a bite to eat, you'll be nearly overwhelmed by the options. But you'll certainly want to take advantage of the fresh seafood!
Some of the best seafood restaurants in Cape Charles include the Oyster Farm and Seafood Eatery, Cape Charles Brewing Company, Kelly's Gingernut Pub, Hook at Harvey, Salt and Sand Family Restaurant, and A&J's Bar & Grill.
And while spring and summer are obvious times to plan your visit, it's also true that Cape Charles is an amazing off-season beach town.
