Summer’s carefree days are just meant for relaxing, and you’ll find no better place to do that than with a day trip to the small town of Charlestown, home to just under 1,400 residents.
If it’s a beach day you’re after, you’ve come to the right place. Charlestown boasts several state and public beaches that offer everything from pristine swimming spots to ideal windsurfing conditions.
Drink in breathtaking views of Block Island Sound as you soak up the sun at Charlestown Breachway. The accessible beach is popular with sunbathers, swimmers, and saltwater fishing.
East Beach, Charlestown Town Beach, Blue Shutters Beach, and Quonochontaug Beach are also popular.

If you prefer to spend time on the water instead of in it, you’ll find several places to go kayaking and boating, including Ninigret Park, Charlestown Breachway, and Watchaug Pond.
Charlestown’s brimming with outdoor destinations, including Burlingame State Park and Campground, which is perfect if you feel like camping out overnight.

Charlestown offers a full menu of fun all summer long. Mark your calendar, so you can stop by in early August for the Charlestown Seafood Festival. The three-day festival at Ninigret Park features plenty of food, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities.
