Nestled in the valleys and lowlands between New Hampshire’s iconic mountains, many lakes and small ponds can be found. Some of these are inaccessible and therefore remain largely unvisited by humans. Others can be reached by trail. So lace up the hiking boots because we are going to take a remote hike in New Hampshire and I promise that you won’t be disappointed.

Mountain Pond is a large body of water located in the valley of Slippery Brook in the town of Chatham.

A 2.7-mile loop trail leads around the pond. While flat, the trail is fairly rugged in places due to rocky footing.

A first-come, first-served shelter at the pond is a good spot for an overnight stay. Come during the week and it will likely be all yours.
