We love the Moro Rock Trail in Sequoia National Park. You’ll climb a staircase on this Northern California hike to the top of a massive rock where you’ll be amazed by stunning views of the mountains and valleys below. This is a popular hiking trail, but we think it should be even more well-known considering these views!

The Moro Rock Trail starts a short distance from the parking lot.
Climbing the staircase, you’ll quickly get higher than the treeline. You can see the San Joaquin Valley to the west and the Sequoia National Park wilderness to the east.

Despite the elevation and dizzying views, this feels like a safe hike.
There are handrails along the way, too, making the staircase climb relatively safe. Keep an eye on children since this route does have steep drop-offs along the entire route.
The Moro Rock Trail is short and sweet. It is only 0.4 miles but will take longer than your typical 0.4-mile trail since this is a steep climb at elevation.
Take your time getting to the top. The climb can be strenuous, and at an elevation of 6,400-6,700 feet, it’ll be easier to get out of breath since the air is thinner.
The Moro Rock Trail is only open when the weather is warm – or at least not snowing. The trail is closed when it is icy. So take full advantage of the beautiful spring and summer weather in California and check out Moro Rock Trail.
Keep your eyes peeled for Peregrine falcons that nest on Moro Rock in the summer. If you spot some, do not disturb them since their nests are protected.
The road to the parking lot is only reachable by shuttle on the weekends.
Catch the shuttle at Giant Forest Museum. The parking lot is open on weekdays.
