It was a chilly, rainy spring day in West Virginia. My family and I were hungry for something sweet, but we had made the unfortunate discovery that many Mountain State ice cream shops were still closed for the winter (and, to be clear, I don’t blame them — of our family, only my husband opts for ice cream over hot chocolate even on the very coldest of winter days). Luckily for our collective sweet teeth, though, we stumbled upon Sweet Thingz, a delightfully delicious cupcakery boutique that’s open for year round dessert in Bluefield, West Virginia.
I knew even before I opened the front door that the cupcakes at Sweet Thingz were going to be good: an emblem on the front step proudly proclaims "Official Stop: Candy Cane Trail #VisitMercerWV."
Further confirmation came as soon as we stepped inside. The overwhelmingly scrumptious smell of fresh baked cake fills every nook and cranny of this tiny bakery, shouting to all who enter, "Sweet treats ahead!"
In addition to multiple flavors of cupcakes, the cheerful, helpful owner of Sweet Thingz (this tasty shop is her dream come true!) also sells lunch items and a variety of cold and hot drinks, plus a small assortment of gift items.
