I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
The Bluegrass might be known for bourbon, and while there are distilleries all across the state, Kentucky is home to some standout wineries, too. In the heart of Horse Country, Talon Winery is a breathtakingly beautiful winery that’s a true hidden treasure. Open for events and tastings, there’s little more delightful than a spring day trip to this sublime winery in Kentucky.
From all appearances, this might look like a vineyard in Napa Valley, or perhaps even the Italian countryside.
Today, Talon Winery has two locations in the heart of Kentucky Horse Country. There is the original location (7086 Tates Creek Rd.
Lexington, KY, 40514) and a second location in Shelbyville (400 Gordon Ln, Shelbyville, KY, 40065).
Known as a beautiful setting for a wedding, what many don't realize is that Talon Winery is also open for tastings and public events! You'll often find live music playing at the vineyard, which, when combined with the sublime scenery, historic charm, and delicious wines, makes for quite a marvelous day trip in Kentucky... especially in the spring.
With regard to the wines, oenophiles have much to love... and taste! From vine-ripened reds and crisp whites to Talon's signature Equestrian Series, you'll definitely want to opt for a tasting in order to sample them all!
In a nod to the state's bourbon-loving heart, the Equestrian Series is a medium-bodied red aged in Kentucky White Oak Barrels, making for a delicious vintage you can only find in the Bluegrass.
Something else you'll only find in the Bluegrass? A winery that's family friendly, warm and inviting. A place with the beauty of a world-renowned winery but the heart of Kentucky.
