Central New Jersey is a great place for dining, attractions, and travel – but nature isn’t exactly the first thing that comes to mind when you think about this dense urban corridor! After all, you’re not exactly going to see much wildlife hanging out near the Northeast Corridor train line. But that’s what makes Hawk Rise Sanctuary all the more surprising. A wildlife sanctuary featuring a birdwatching trail in Linden, New Jersey, this small park was first opened in 2012. Converting a former industrial area into an ecological preserve home to dozens of species of birds along with other wildlife and native plants, this park is home to one of the nicest short hikes in New Jersey. It’s only 1.2 miles, but don’t expect it to be quick – you’ll want to spend a while seeing just how many bird species you can spot!
