There are many haunted places located throughout the state of Alabama. Even though several people, especially paranormal enthusiasts, are drawn to them, there are still many people who choose to stay far away. One of these towns is Old Cahawba. To learn all about Old Cahawba and why many people choose to stay away, take a look below.
Old Cahawba, which is also known as Cahawba and Cahaba, is a small abandoned town that's located in Dallas County, Alabama.
From 1820 to 1826, this tiny town served as the state's very first permanent capital. It's now often referred to as "Alabama's Most Famous Ghost Town."
Today, Old Cahawba is operated as Old Cahawba Archeological Park. Numerous people visit this archaeological site each year because of its history. However, with that being said, many people also choose to stay away from the abandoned town because it's believed to be haunted.
While exploring Old Cahawba, it's very easy to see why many people believe it could be haunted. Some of the buildings are in a state of decay, and there are also...
...a few ruins located throughout the town.
One of the most haunting features of Old Cahawba is its slave burial ground. You'll reach this burial ground via a trail. According to reports, it was created in 1819. Sadly, many of the buried bodies here don't have headstones, so you could be walking over their gravesites and not even know it. The last burial supposedly took place in 1957.
