Exploring the natural beauty of Pennsylvania is as easy as heading to one of our state parks, where we’ll find everything from the old-growth forest and sandy beaches to cascading waterfalls and fascinating rock formations. The state park system, in fact, grew in 2022, expanding from 121 to 124 state parks with the addition of Big Elk Creek State Park in Chester County, Vosburg Neck State Park in Wyoming County, and Riverlands State Park in York County.
Adventurers just scored a huge win with the addition of three new state parks, including Riverlands State Park in Pennsylvania, a 1,044-acre natural playground that sits approximately six miles from Wrightsville.
Slip on a pair of comfy hiking shoes, and follow the 2.75-mile Mason-Dixon Trail, part of the larger 200-mile trail. The trail, which currently does not allow dogs, earns an easy rating and usually takes around an hour to complete.
Expect the unexpected along this picturesque path that will take you through wetlands. (Wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet and muddy.) Chances are you’ll run into a variety of wildlife, too – rabbits, turtles, and birds.
The Pennsylvania state park also offers stunning views of the Susquehanna River and one-of-a-kind rock formations from various scenic overlooks. You definitely don’t want to forget your camera for this one.
Big Elk Creek State Park sits just minutes from the Delaware border, spans 1,700 acres, and offers such amenities as hiking, horseback riding, and bird watching.
Stretching just 669 acres, Vosburg Neck State Park packs a ton of scenic beauty into its snug size. Explore and discover a cemetery from the 1700s, a canal bed, a rail bed, and eight miles of hiking trails.
