Bear Lake is one of the most popular outdoor attractions in northern Utah. This beautiful blue lake is a delightful vacation getaway all year long with outdoor opportunities galore. But, underneath the surface of this massive freshwater lake is a possible creature that may just give you the chills — the Bear Lake Monster. While this may be one of the most well-known and scariest legends that surround the lake, each January, it becomes one of the most exciting. The Bear Lake Monster Winterfest is one of Bear Lake’s largest and most highly-anticipated winter events and you’ll absolutely want to go.
Mark your calendars for January 27-29, 2023, to attend the Bear Lake Monster Winterfest. This winter festival is sure to get you outside and enjoying the chilly weather.
Many of the activities throughout this annual festival take place at the Utah Bear Lake State Park Marina and Sunrise Resort and Event Center. Activities begin Friday and include the Monster Winterfest Social. Here, you can register for some of Saturday’s events and enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities. That evening is also the Monster Taste of Bear Lake, a delicious event for foodies.
Saturday is packed with things to do from morning to night. Throughout the day, you can participate in events such as the Winterfest Village Market and food trucks, a chili cook-off, and the Monster 5K Run and Walk.
All participants will build their best cardboard boat, hop in, and race on the lake. If interested, make sure to sign up early as only 30 vessels are allowed to enter.
And while there are many additional activities throughout the day, the event that many people come to enjoy is the Monster Plunge. During this activity, you'll have an experience of a lifetime as you jump into the frigid lake to help raise funds for a charity located in Garden City.
And if jumping into the freezing water isn’t your thing, there are so many other things to do from fishing contests to disco dance parties to pancake breakfasts — you’ll never be bored.
The legend of the Bear Lake Monster may be a little terrifying, but this winter festival in Utah is far from it. It’s a weekend that you are going to love.
