I am a nature lover and self-proclaimed foodie wrapped in one package. In my previous life, I was an Accountant, but numbers were boring and writing is the only thing that fuels my soul. So, I write because it's my freedom...it brings me joy. When I'm not writing dope articles for OnlyInYourState, I am writing and editing articles for my online blog on Medium.com. Or, when I get the chance, I am off on a trip with my family chasing waterfalls, or simply exploring the great outdoors. My mantra is to always find the best part of every day and bask in it.
Paragould Arkansas is nicknamed the “Friendly City,” but you might know it as the home of the scenic Crowley Ridge State Park. The city is dotted with notable landmarks that signify the rich history of the town. You’ll also find the oldest replica of the Statue of Liberty in the heart of the “main street” area. While the statue was erected in 1924, not many people know that it was cast and shipped from Illinois. This iconic landmark in Arkansas serves as a war memorial for the soldiers in the town who fought in WWI.
The “Friendly City” of Paragould is located along the scenic Crowley’s Ridge Byway in the Arkansas Delta. And interestingly, it’s the only town in the world with its name.
Established in 1883, Paragould is mostly known for its rich history as well as its monuments and historical landmarks.
The historic downtown is a must-visit and is filled with lots to see. You’ll love a photo op next to the caboose, which represents the city’s significant role in the railroad industry.
But it’s the monuments in Paragould that are the most notable landmarks. And one of the most significant is the seven-foot replica of the Statue of Liberty.
After completion, the statue was erected in front of the Old Greene County Courthouse. And it's a war memorial in honor of soldiers of Green County who served during WWI.
In 1997, the landmark was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Arkansas. Along with other war memorials around Paragould, you can easily tell that this town fully respects and cares about its veterans.
So, the next time you’re in Paragould, be sure to stop by and check out this iconic landmark in Arkansas for yourself.
