Iowa’s frigid winter temperatures are matched by hot and sweaty summer days. If you’re looking for a way to cool off when the temperatures rise, don’t settle for the garden hose in the backyard. Take a trip to one of these 5 epic waterparks in Iowa.
1. Lost Island, Waterloo
When it comes to Iowa waterparks, nothing compares to Lost Island. The park is situated on 24 acres of land and has a dizzying array of slides, lagoons, lazy rivers, and more. Play a little water volleyball, let the little ones check out Starfish Cove, or if you’re feeling really brave, slide down the Lost Soul Falls. You can even meet Lost Island’s real mermaid, Maizie!
2. Adventure Bay, Altoona
As Iowa’s newest outdoor waterpark, Adventure Bay doesn’t disappoint. There are plenty of thrilling slides and lagoons, but it also has Iowa’s largest wave pool and longest lazy river. The Heron Splash Pad is perfect for the little ones, while adults will enjoy swimming up to the bar at Pirates' Port Pool for a drink. Admission also includes the rest of the theme park.
3. Wasserbahn Waterpark, Williamsburg
The Wasserbahn Waterpark is located indoors. The main attraction is the two racing slides that wind their way outdoors before spitting you out inside. The best part about this indoor waterpark resort is that you can pay to swim for the day. You do not have to rent a room for the night.
4. King’s Pointe, Storm Lake
King’s Point may not be the biggest waterpark on the list, but it is definitely the most scenic. Located on the edge of Storm Lake, this outdoor waterpark offers sweeping vistas of the lake and the surrounding area. The waterpark itself contains five waterslides, diving boards, lap lanes, and a splash pad for the little ones.
5. Grand Harbor Resort and Waterpark, Dubuque
Because the temperatures drop in the winter, many of Iowa’s waterparks can be found indoors. However, most of them are also true resorts, making them a great summer vacation idea. Grand Harbor Resort and Waterpark contains 25,000 square feet of water slides, tube slides, water cannons, and activity pools.
