Many incredible outdoor attractions are scattered throughout Alabama, including the beautiful Bellingrath Gardens and Home, located in Theodore, Alabama. There’s no denying that this is one of Alabama’s top outdoor attractions. One of the greatest things about Bellingrath Gardens and Home is that it can be enjoyed by people of all ages. To truly understand the beauty of this outdoor attraction, you’ll have to see it for yourself. With that being said, don’t forget to add Bellingrath Gardens and Home to your summer bucket list.
Bellingrath Gardens and Home features an exquisite 65-acre garden and the grand estate home of Walter and Bessie Bellingrath. It’s located along the Fowl River and covers approximately 900 acres. Bellingrath Gardens and Home is open year-round, so something is always blooming.
Built in 1935, the Bellingrath Home (below) is a 15-room, 10,000-square-foot English-style mansion. This was the permanent residence of the Bellingraths and is the centerpiece of Bellingrath Gardens. Located inside the mansion is an extensive collection of artwork and porcelain bird sculptures. Most of these were collected from the Bellingraths’ many travels. Rare antique furniture is also located throughout the home. All of these things, and more, can be viewed if you choose to tour the mansion. The Bellingrath Home is often referred to as “the charm spot of the Deep South.”
