Food brings people together, and Dairy Bar in Lake Jackson, Texas is a prime example of that sentiment. This longstanding institution is so much more than just a place to eat – it’s a beloved local gathering spot where people come to catch up over a good burger. It’s definitely one of the best small-town restaurants in Texas, and everyone who walks through the door is made to feel like family.
Since 1951, Dairy Bar has prided itself on serving some of the best burgers in Texas, and locals will tell you there's simply no place that compares.
Before we even start talking about the food, let's discuss the atmosphere. Make no bones about it; this is not a fancy restaurant by anyone's standards - but that's precisely what makes it so charming.
The counter-serve joint is minimally decorated and harkens back to a bygone era with its old-fashioned ketchup bottles, concession stand-style menu board, and vinyl booths (most of which are occupied at any given time with locals catching up over a good meal).
On the walls, you'll see old photographs and newspaper clippings that provide deeper insight into the restaurant's timeline. Spend a few minutes looking at everything before placing your order - you just might make a few new friends while you're at it.
Now, onto the most important part: the food. Restaurants that still grind their own meat are few and far between, but going above and beyond is part of the Dairy Bar's mission statement.
The menu is vast and varied, with eight different burgers alone to choose from. Either keep it classic, or level up with toppings like cheese, bacon, and jalapenos.
Other entrees include chicken tender, steak finger, and catfish baskets, sandwiches, burritos, hot dogs, and more. Sides include potato chips, onion rings, tater tots, and both crinkle-cut and spicy wedge fries.
Don't skip dessert! Nothing is more nostalgic than a classic banana split, ice cream sundae, float, or milkshake. The restaurant also offers over 100 soft drink combinations!
