The quirkiest street in Wisconsin’s quirkiest city delivers a breakfast treat you won’t forget. Lazy Janes’ Cafe and Bakery has the best morning bun in Wisconsin. It’s a sugary and sublime treat that brightens even the gloomiest day and if you love sweet and flaky bakery treats, you’ll want to order one. Here’s why.

William Street, A.K.A., Willy Street, is a street that runs southwest toward Madison’s Capitol Square. While the downtown is home to many attorneys, politicians, and lobbyists, there’s a much different vibe on Willy Street.
Here, you’re unlikely to see crowds of men in power suits - you're much more likely to see a man riding a unicycle while playing a banjo. You’ll find some quirky and inventive businesses, and catch a waft of something in the air.
That “something” might be a controlled substance in Wisconsin, or if you’re near Lazy Jane’s, it’s something so addictive it probably should be regulated by federal law.
The morning buns at this little restaurant and bakery are simply out of this world. Lazy Jane’s was the creation of restaurateur Jane Capito, a force in the Madison culinary scene. This Willy Street enterprise has a huge following, and on weekend mornings, customers queue up and a crowd spills out onto the sidewalk, just for the chance to eat breakfast here.
The restaurant is as quirky as the neighborhood – it feels a bit like stepping into someone’s home. The décor has lots of unusual touches, but this is a place where you come for the food more than the atmosphere.
Order a hot beverage and take a bite of a morning bun and you’ll understand why – they are sugary perfection! If you feel like something savory, the restaurant also has a lot of classic breakfast and lunch items, including omelettes, bacon, egg and cheese biscuits, and hash browns. Be sure to arrive hungry!
Learn more about Lazy Janes’s Cafe and Bakery on the restaurant’s Facebook page. Once you’ve filled up on morning buns, there’s another delicious treat that can be purchased just down the street – monkey bread!
