Tucked away in the little Hamilton County town of Aurora is a world-class educational facility that provides some of the coolest kid-friendly experiences in Nebraska. The Edgerton Explorit Center is a hands-on playground of science, engineering, and tons of fun. It’s about an hour’s drive west of Lincoln or 30 minutes east of Grand Island, and it’s a must-visit for every inquisitive, creative, and curious young mind.
Edgerton Explorit Center is named for Harold "Doc" Edgerton, one of Nebraska's most notable natives. He invented the strobe light and made high-speed photography possible, though those were hardly the beloved scientist's only accomplishments.
The center that bears his name opened its doors in 1995 with the goal of providing kids a place to go to learn about science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.
Today, we call those collective disciplines STEAM, and they're some of the most important subjects to expand kids' minds and help them understand and interact with the world in a meaningful way.

The Explorit Center encourages learning through play in its action-packed facility. It's broken up into zones, each of which features different activities and experiments to ignite kids' curiosity about the world around them.
If you thought putt-putt golf was just fun, think again - it's science in action! Like most of the activities at the Explorit Center, your kids won't even realize they're learning while they discover how different actions lead to different results.
While the center is designed for kids, their grownups are more than welcome to join in on the play. You're never too old to have fun, and it's never too late to learn something new!
The Explorit Center also offers day camps that kids absolutely love. If your kid is lucky enough to attend a school in the area, they may even be treated to one of the center's traveling experiences!
