Beyond its immense snowfall each year due to its temperate rainforest status, this little town is just as bright and cheerful in the winter as you would imagine. The average winter temperature is pleasant, hovering at around 20 degrees Fahrenheit in winter.
It’s most famous for the world-famous Alyeska Resort.

This resort is home to one of the only ski resorts in the country that starts at ski level. The entire resort is bustling in the wintertime, as it’s the best ski resort in the state.

There are 76 named trails, and on average you can ski over 669″ of snow. It’s an epic playground for skiers of all skill levels.

When the conditions are right, excellent ice skating can be had. Visitors to the small town will love the cheerful atmosphere and snow-covered trees nearby. Make sure to grab a cup of hot chocolate at the coffee shop inside!
There’s also incredible cross-country skiing in the middle of town.

Moose Meadow is a dog-friendly Nordic Loop frequented by skiers and bicyclists. It’s groomed regularly by the Girdwood Nordic Ski Club.
Because the town is such a hot destination in the wintertime, there are plenty of places to stay.
